Summer 2015 Theater Camps for Children and Teens
taught by Roberta Esposito
The Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts is proud to present a collection of theater camps for summer 2015. The newly renovated community arts center is debuting to the public in September, but before that students of all ages are invited to explore the performing arts with an instructor well versed in all aspects of theater. All classes are taught by Roberta Esposito, a local actress, director and singer who has performed in more than 150 shows, cabarets, musicals, films and television shows across the United States and Europe. As a high school drama club advisor and director, and as a frequent workshop instructor, Roberta has years of experience in connecting children of all ages with the magic of theater.
Read on for the camp schedule and descriptions of the courses offered. Each class balances fun with learning essential theater skills. Students of all experience and skill levels are welcome. Send your child to camp with us and they might just come back with a new passion for performance, or at least the boost in self-confidence and self-expression that a week in theater is guaranteed to give them.
Villains and Villainesses (July 27 - July 31, ages 11 and up) | Learn to play the characters we love to hate. Using some of theater’s greatest villains, students will focus on the development of vocal skills, body language, movement, acting, songs, scene work and the creation of a persona. Students will develop the confidence and self-esteem needed to make bold character choices and go for it!
Broadway Babies (August 3 - August 7, ages 4 to 7) | This program will use music, rhythms, rhymes and movement to introduce the youngest performers to musical theater. These budding “Broadway babies” will explore the magical, imaginative world of theater through stories, skits and musical plays inspired by and based on folklore and fairytales.
Disney Musical Express (August 3 - August 7, ages 8 to 11) | Using Disney musicals as a model, students will explore ways of interpreting musical theater characters. Class time will include exercises, scene work, improvisation, vocal technique, choral and individual songs, acting and movement. Explore “a whole new world” teeming with imagination and wonder!
