Nigra Arts Center to Offer American Red Cross Babysitting Course for Teens!

The Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts is offering an American Red Cross Babysitting Course at its facility at 2736 State Highway 30, Gloversville. The one-day course will be held on Saturday, May 4, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The fee is $125. 

The purpose of this course, recommended for ages 11-15, is to provide youth with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly care for children and infants. Students will develop leadership skills, learn how to build a babysitting business, gain skills to keep themselves and others safe, develop techniques to help children behave and learn about basic childcare and first aid. 

Other topics covered in this comprehensive course include communication skills, decision-making models, finding babysitting jobs safely, recognizing and fixing safety issues, identifying typical behaviors for children based on their ages and stages of development, the different types of childcare, recognizing and taking action during an emergency, and basic childcare skills such as diaper changing and holding and feeding infants and toddlers.

The Dance Company opens new location at the Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts

The Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts and The Dance Company have come together to bring the joy of dance to children of all ages in Fulton County. The Dance Company is opening its newest studio at the arts center, located at 2736 State Highway 30, Gloversville. Classes begin September 13 and will run through June of 2017.

The Dance Company is a studio run by Gretchen Salvione, a longtime dance teacher. At the Nigra Arts Center, she and her staff will teach hip hop, jazz, lyrical, tap, ballet and clogging to children ages 4 and up. They will also offer an adaptive dance class for students of all levels of ability who want to learn a wide range of dance genres. Special accommodations are available for adaptive dance classes.

The first session of classes runs from September 13 to December 10, 2016. Session Two runs from January 3 to June 10, 2017. When Session One begins, The Dance Company will offer classes on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Tuesday classes include Hip Hop & Jazz for grades K-2, Hip Hop & Jazz for grades 3-5, Hip Hop & Jazz for grades 6-8 and Teen Hip Hop & Lyrical. Thursday classes include Adaptive Dance for ages 5-17, Tap & Ballet for grades Pre-K-1, Tap & Ballet for grades 2-4, Lyrical & Clogging for grades 5-7 and Teen Lyrical & Clogging. Saturday classes include Ballet, Jazz & Hip Hop for ages 4-7 and Ballet, Jazz & Hip Hop for ages 8-13.

Recitals take place on the last day of each class.
